Happy October!

Sign up for good vibes this weekend!

Prepare to bliss out at Hand Craft Yoga studio this Saturday with our once-a-month all-level yoga class from 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by a sound bath with Cherie from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Come for one, or stay for both!

Essentially, a sound bath is a meditative experience designed to “bathe” listeners in sound waves, using several instruments to create soothing, overlapping vibrations. It is possible that these vibrations could lead you deeper into a state of contemplation or relaxation, soothing the nervous system. There is only one way to find out... come on over!

If you want to learn more about cymatics (the study of visible sound vibration), click HERE to watch a neat 2-minute video featuring the transformational nature of sound and matter.

While this class is located at the Hand Craft Yoga studio, it is separate from my membership/passes. The sound bath is $20, but Cherie is giving a discount to Hand Craft Yoga students! It will be $15 each, and you can pay her when you come to the session.

Have you been reading The Labrador Pact?

Winnie and I are excited that this week is the official meeting of Winnie's Book Club! Last week, I asked who wants to bring snacks (if you missed that and are interested, click here).

This week, I want to know... are you looking forward to hearing what Winnie has to say about this book that's narrated by a dog? Then plan to come to the official snack and chat for "The Labrador Pact" this Thursday, October 3, from 12 to 1:45 pm! Let us know you'll be there by clicking the button below:

It's time for a new spotlight!!

I'm excited to introduce you to our October Student Spotlight...Laura A! Even though she has had several major schedule changes over the past five years, she keeps yoga a consistent part of her routine. Winnie and I get excited every time Laura walks through the door. I'm so grateful that she (finally) let me feature her in the spotlight😉. Read on for her thoughtful insights:

What is your favorite part of yoga?

My favorite part of yoga is that it (Monica) tricks me into thinking I'm not exercising. I have always had a rough relationship with "exercising." 10 sets of 15 reps...running, weightlifting...not for me. Sweating profusely just to feel like I've accomplished some goal. Nope! In college, I enjoyed Jazzercise...another trick to my brain. HA! I loved it and didn't feel pressure. Finding Hand Craft Yoga and Monica has been attitude changing. I look forward to making it to class. Darn that whole working thing otherwise, I would be at more classes! I leave each class with such a better take on the day...and on myself! The more consistently I attend, the less hard on myself I am... and the less my back hurts.

How long have you been practicing (in general / with Monica)?

I have practiced yoga with Monica since 2019.

What is something yoga has helped you overcome?

My negative feelings about exercise. Enough said.

Do you have any words of advice for a brand-new beginner?

Try it! There are so many classes to choose from and dip your toe in. Each one provides a different experience.

What is one fun fact that we may not know about you?

I secretly play the piano, but you’ll never know if I’m any good because I despise the spotlight! No one will ever hear me play.

Thank you for sharing your practice with us, Laura!

One of my favorites

If you've ever attended a class at the studio with me, there's a great chance you've heard from the "Prayers for Healing" book. Please enjoy this one from this weekend(Sept 28)...it's one of my favorites:

Here's to rising up joyful, like a bird, and to falling without regret, like a leaf.

With love,

Monica

...but we tried to have fun anyway! The retreat this past weekend (at Lake LBJ) was a huge success! Our group had a great time... full of playfulness, gratitude, nourishment, connection, and beauty. It is unanimous...we can't wait to do it again! Here is a glimpse at some of the highlight moments from our second annual Lakeside Yoga Retreat: Don't worry, we have another one coming up! The next retreat won't be on a lake, but it will have many fun activities, amazing people, and delicious food...

So long, summer! Can you be-leaf it’s already almost fall? This Sunday, Sept 22, is the second time of the year that daytime and darkness are equal. This “Autumnal Equinox” marks the point at which nighttime gradually starts to outlast the day as we enter fall and move toward the darker seasons. In the spirit of the seasonal shift, practice finding your Equinox Breath. Slowly and patiently allow your breath to calibrate to equal part inhale, equal part exhale. Consider counting to stay...

I was writing my first Hand Craft Yoga Newsletter! Here's a throwback to that moment on this day three years ago: The subject line was "Where were you 10 years ago?" "I was deciding to become a yoga teacher. After a life-changing family vacation, I embarked on a year of self-study beginning September 2011, and by the end of 2012, I had enrolled in a 200-hour teacher training. The first official classes I got to teach were in April of 2013. After an estimated 2,350 hours of teaching, another...
